Last Minute Letdowns March 02, 2013 Sometimes in work, things will happen that you just have no control over. Like jobs getting put back because of adverse weather conditions, part of a building collapsing, the work programme falling behind or just not enough money to continue. In recent years I've seen that happen a few too many times. Also you get times when a client will pull out of a job just before starting. This happened to us this week. Four hours before in fact. When this happens it can have a severe knock on effect. You have jobs programmed in weeks in advance and its not always possible to change the start date when a job is cancelled. So instead of working you can be sat at home instead. Loss of earnings will of course affect you as well. Thankfully this job was only a small one and it was basically a weekend filler, but still to be let down like we was is still frustrating. Its times like this where I can see how annoying and stressful it must have been for my previous employers when they had start dates put back but still had to find work for their blokes. Must have been a lot of juggling going on. Plus it isn't just the one person affected, bosses might have to make lay offs until the jobs are ready to begin so what started as a small delay has resulted in families not having enough money to pay bills. Ok that is an extreme situation but it does happen and it happens more than you think. Hopefully I won't find myself in this position in the future.Slightly off topic from the main point of my blog but on my mind and in focus a lot at the moment is the continuing "crazing" of caulk when painted. Happening an awful lot lately and I'm still none the wiser why. I'm using a lot of water based paints lately and it's occurring daily. Be it on the edges of the woodwork where the emulsion catches it or on the actual frame itself after undercoating. Whatever or wherever it is it's frustrating. Doing some research on various forums and twitter it's affecting and annoying a lot of painters and still no one has come up with a reason why it happens. Some say it's because it's a vinyl matt you are using others just the general poor quality of the caulk, whatever it isn't good enough.Fed up with some of my work getting picked up on something I have no control over. Actually that just tied in with my first line!www.db-decs.co.uk
