Summer notes

StartFragment

It's been a busy last couple of months, personally and professionally. On the work side I have worked non stop. For the company I've sub contracted to for the majority of the year and on a few private jobs on weekends. I think this site I've been on this year is the longest I've stayed on one site ever. Practical completion happened back in April but the level of snagging the client is going to borders on the ridiculous! Hopefully the end is in sight and a new site beckons me. The good thing about this site is that I've been able to increase my knowledge and skills of using water based gloss. Got the finish of it down to a fine art now and it's almost, but not quite yet, as good as oil based gloss. The key to it all is using the correct brush. I've used Purdy Monarch elite pro extras and on the advice of other decorators, Wooster sliver tips. Both excellent brushes for water based products and highly recommended. Sliver tips have surprised me for the quality of finish and use for the price I paid for them. Will be buying more in the future.

Aside from the site work I've done some domestic properties and have really enjoyed them. Getting away from new work is a pleasure and it's good to take something previously done and improve and change it. One was a front door from brown gloss to a white satin finish. 5 coats later and it looks superb. Another I had to change a pink kitchen (?!?!) back to a neutral colour. Four full coats including a base coat to get it to cover completely. But still it was enjoyable. Also have had to do some work at home, working my way through the house slowly with a work load that keeps increasing thanks to my 2 year old daughter! She has decided that wallpaper doesn't belong on the walls so keeps pulling it off, so that means the hall stairs and landing needs to be stripped and redone. The exterior doesn't have much to be done thankfully.

I have got one gripe however, and that is people using my business as a outlet for their jokes. I've had a few enquiries come through my website, me been the trusting person I am take them as genuine and reply, only to find it was a made up account. I can laugh it off to a point. What may seem funny to others is not to people starting up their own business. I know of others who have it this done to them also with prank calls and the like. We are all trying hard to get our own business off the ground, so all enquires for work are taken seriously. Its hard enough to build a client base up without dealing with idiots wasting our time with false enquiries.

On a positive note to end 5 weeks ago my wife blessed us with our second child, a little boy. As such sleep has become less and less!! Seriously we are both very happy and feel lucky to have two wonderful children. Coupled with the beautiful weather we've enjoyed lately, life is good and long may it continue.
